Why Eating Disorder Treatment Is Important
According to research, eating disorders have the second highest mortality rate of any mental illness, second only to opioid abuse. Additionally, it’s estimated that 28.8 million people, or 9% of the U.S. population, will suffer from a clinically significant eating disorder in their lifetimes.
We know that a variety of biological, psychological, and social factors contribute to the development of an eating disorder. These include genetics, societal pressures, neurobiology, trauma histories, family dynamics, and high levels of stress. And at Aster Springs, we take the whole person into consideration and address the factors that contributed to the individual’s eating disorder when creating an individualized treatment plan for each client.
