Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

It’s a common misconception that clients at an eating disorder treatment center are simply sent home after the completion of a residential treatment program. The best treatment centers offer various levels of care to ease clients back into eventually living independently. One option for continued treatment after a residential program is an intensive outpatient program (IOP), which we offer at Aster Springs.

IOPs are essential in any eating disorder treatment plan as they offer a step down in care from more intensive residential treatment options. Available to adults and adolescents of all genders, ages 12 and older (may vary by location), our IOP allows clients to attend programming either during the day or in the evening and then prepare meals and engage in learned coping skills in their free time. Additionally, there are a number of housing options available nearby for clients while they’re participating in the program.

What Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) Entails

Our IOP provides customized treatment that’s focused on helping each client achieve their recovery goals related to their eating disorder symptoms. We offer a unique environment that meets each person where they are in an atmosphere of openness and acceptance without judgment. We also focus on addressing the underlying issues and supporting long-term recovery with a combination of a unique step-down approach and multidisciplinary therapies.

Our IOP helps clients who are experiencing an increase in distressing symptoms and behaviors or are not progressing in traditional outpatient services. The additional support provided fosters meaningful improvement and prepares clients to transition back to standard outpatient treatment. Our IOP treatment meets three to five days a week for three hours a day, with day and evening programming available.
